Teaming Up Locally: Where to Find LAN Servers in Minecraft

28 June 2022

Local Network

Minecraft offers a captivating multiplayer experience that allows players to connect and play with others. One of the most convenient ways to team up with friends or family is by joining Local Area Network (LAN) servers. LAN servers enable players to connect to others within the same network, creating an immersive and collaborative gameplay environment. In this article, we will explore where to find LAN servers in Minecraft and how to connect to them, ensuring that you can enjoy multiplayer adventures with those nearby.

  1. Set Up Local Network

Before you can find and join LAN servers in Minecraft, ensure that all players are connected to the same local network. This typically means being connected to the same Wi-Fi network or being physically connected through an Ethernet cable. Make sure all devices are connected to the network and have stable connections to proceed.

  2. Start MinecraftLaunch Minecraft on your device. From the main menu, select "Play" to access the world selection screen. On this screen, you will see a list of available worlds and options for multiplayer gameplay.

  3. Open the World

To create a LAN server, you need to open a world that others can join. If you have an existing world, select it from the list. If you want to start a new world, choose the "Create New" option and customize your world's settings.

  4. Enable LAN

Once you have loaded the world, open the in-game menu by pressing the Esc key (PC) or the Start button (console). From the menu, select the "Open to LAN" option. This action will bring up a new menu where you can configure the LAN settings for the session.

  5. Configure LAN Settings

In the LAN settings menu, you can specify various options. You can choose the game mode (survival, creative, adventure, or spectator), enable or disable cheats, and adjust other settings. Once you've configured the settings, select the "Start LAN World" or "Open to LAN" button. Minecraft will generate an IP address and port number for the LAN server.

  6. Joining the LAN Server

Now that the LAN server is running, other players on the same network can join. On their devices, they need to start Minecraft and select the "Multiplayer" option from the main menu. In the multiplayer menu, they can click on the "Friends" tab to see a list of available LAN servers. The LAN server you opened should appear on the list. Players can select it and choose the "Join Server" option to connect.

  7. Enjoy Local Multiplayer

Once connected to the LAN server, players can embark on cooperative building projects, engage in friendly competitions, explore together, and share the excitement of Minecraft gameplay. The LAN environment allows for real-time collaboration and communication, making for memorable local multiplayer experiences.

Finding LAN servers in Minecraft requires players to be connected to the same local network. By starting Minecraft, opening a world, enabling LAN, configuring LAN settings, joining the LAN server, and enjoying local multiplayer, players can team up with friends and family for exciting Minecraft adventures. Whether it's collaborating on grand building projects or embarking on thrilling explorations, LAN servers bring the joy of multiplayer gaming to those nearby. So gather your loved ones, set up your LAN server, and let the Minecraft fun unfold right in your own home.
